Get to know me….
Hello!!
I’m Karla and I am an award winning family photographer based in Kaiapoi, North Canterbury. I have been lucky enough to call Photography my job for the past 10 years.
So the saying goes… “Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
I am a member of the NZIPP and last year at the Iris Awards I was awarded my Master of Photography! It was a goal that seemed very out of reach but what do you know, I did it. It was a huge deal and I am super proud of myself.
I am a Northland girl born and bred but 17 years ago I moved to Christchurch (for one year!) and never got around to going home. I feel so lucky to live in this beautiful part of the country. I’m pretty sure I can call myself a Cantabrian now ;)
family photography
I absolutely love family photography.
Its really special to be able to capture memories and preserve the love between family members for generations to come. From as far back as I can remember photography has always fascinated me. I could literally press a button and capture the moment and we had it forever! For my 13 year old mind, that was something quite amazing!
One of my favourite things about family photography is getting to know each family's dynamic and unique story. Every family is different and it's such a joy to be able to capture their personality and relationship in each photograph. Whether it's a silly moment between siblings, a tender embrace between a parent and child, or a group hug that includes the entire extended family - every photo tells a story and I love being a part of that!
Personal life
I am married to Chris and Mum to our beautiful girl, Honor. I have three fur-kids - a chubby Labrador called Clive, a quirky Greyhound called Mia and a sweet little tabby cat called Jane. Yes, I love to give my animals human names ;)
I drink way too much coffee, I’m an online shopping addict, I belong to various gyms that I don’t go to, I love animals (especially cows) and one day I plan to live in a tiny home on a big property with a stream running through it. With a cow… or two ;) I am at my happiest surrounded by my friends and family - they mean everything to me. Humour is my thing … I love to laugh and make people laugh!
I know first-hand how quickly the years go by - my (not so) little girl is 12 now and even though that doesn’t seem like a long time, it is incredible how quickly she has changed from year to year. She is a joy, love being her Mama so much! She’s a bit too cool for photos now … unless its a selfie with her long, dangly distracting arm in the foreground. A photo is a photo right? I’ll take it …. :)
